Bitumen, used for road construction or roofing has to be modified to achieve or improve the following properties:
- lower tendency to form wheel tracks
- good deforming resistance at high temperatures
- improvement of the adhesion of the bitumen on the mineral
- high compacting degree during construction (lower void content)
- considerable decrease of transport and paving temperature
- reduced heat radiation and vapour generation
- energy-saving production of mixed materials; short mixing time
- protection of wearing parts during production of mixed mineral
- reduced viscosity and increased softening point of bitumen
